How to Choose The Best WordPress Hosting Provider for You

It’s best to start with learning more about how to choose the right hosting provider. General tips on choosing a hosting provider also apply for WordPress hosting, but there are some specifics too. So, onto our tips and guidelines:

  • Know your budget. You can’t really look for a high-end managed WordPress cloud hosting provider with a $5 per month budget. We’ll recommend a hosting provider in each budget category, so you can choose what’s best within your budget. Point is, if you have a low budget, look for low budget hosting.
  • Know where and how to check for reviews. The web hosting industry is shady, spoiled, and corrupt. Most reviews you’re going to find are either fake, paid for the hosting provider itself, or written by a biased affiliate. If it’s a user-submitted review, and the reviewer is anonymous, disregard it. There’s no way of knowing who wrote that review. If they left a website in their review, check their whois data, ping them, and verify if they really are hosted with the reviewed WP hosting provider. If they left a link to their social profiles or whatever, check if the social accounts are just some random fake accounts created by the hosting provider or a 3rd party. And of course, websites that rank “Top10 WordPress Hosting Providers” and include any EIG host (HostGator, Bluehost, A Small Orange, and others) are either created by EIG themselves, or from someone that’s looking to get an affiliate commission. To keep it short, all EIG hosts suck. If you see a recommendation of an EIG host, you can completely ignore that whole website. Best place to check for reviews are forums like WebHostingTalk and the /r/webhosting subreddit.
  • Do your research. Don’t just go with the first provider you see. If you’re hosting something important, it’s not a decision you can make in a matter of minutes. You’re basically making a long-term commitment, if you don’t plan on using the hosting provider for a month then migrating to another. Half an hour of research will save you hours of headaches and errors in the future. By “research”, specifically to this, I mean extensive research on the company itself, how they handle their WordPress hosting, how they limit their users, what software they use, their reviews etc.
  • Don’t go with new and unknown hosting providers. The reason is, literally everyone can start a “web hosting company” with a basic reseller account. Most new and unknown hosting providers will go out of business or disappear within the first year. Sad reality is that most of them are specialized WordPress hosting providers. Now, we intentionally wrote both “new” and “unknown”. If a reputable WordPress company like rtCamp started a new hosting provider, you can probably trust them. If someone starts a new WordPress hosting company, but is respected in various communities like Reddit and WebHostingTalk, then it’s all fine.
  • Be careful of unlimited WordPress hosting providers. Realistically, there’s no such thing as unlimited, especially not if it’s cheap. Read their ToS and fine print, and you’ll notice the real limitations. When you start getting the most out of your unlimited account, you’ll either get suspended without warning, or they’ll warn you and disable your account afterward. Though it may sound enticing, you’re actually better of using a very limited hosting account as opposed to an unlimited one, at least you know what you’re working with if you use a limited account. Still, there are legit hosting providers that offer unlimited stats. What they mean by “unlimited” is basically “we won’t limit you to 5GB disk space, but if you start using unusually more disk space, we’ll do something.”
  • 100% uptime guarantee does not mean your website will be up 100% of the time. There’s no such thing as 100% uptime and nobody can guarantee that. What web hosting providers usually mean when advertising 100% uptime, is that you’ll get (some of) your money back if your website is not up 100% of the time. And most often than not, their criteria is a bit strict and they get themselves out of most situations as data center hardware failure. Some hosting providers won’t even offer your actual money back, but they’ll add hosting credits into your account.
  • As we mentioned before, the web hosting industry is shady, so be aware of marketing tricks. The first thing you see may be “ONLY $0.99 PER MONTH”, but that price is for the first month only, where the second month will be something like $49.99 per month. Another common shady trick is including setup fees. The hosting plan itself may be cheap, but the setup fee won’t be. The company may advertise “24/7 Managed WordPress Support”, but check what’s the coverage of their support. It may be very limited. Be careful of extras and addons. Most of them are unnecessary. They’re usually checked and added to your cart by default, so make sure you’ve removed them. Backup solutions should be purchased outside of the hosting provider. You can even get away with a free backup solution with a plugin like Updraft Plus. Those $150 free Google AdWords credits or whatever are nothing special, and you can get them from anywhere. Whatever else they offer for “FREE” like domain names, site builders and whatnot is either useless or you’ll pay for it via the hosting plan’s pricing.
  • Know what type of hosting you need. Do you need shared, reseller, cloud, VPS, dedicated, managed, unmanaged, semi-dedicated? There are dozens of common categories. They can be overwhelming, especially for beginners. You should do your research and learn what each category is, but in short: go with shared hosting if your WordPress site is small and doesn’t get much traffic. Go with Reseller if you have multiple WordPress sites (either your or your clients’), go with Cloud/VPS hosting if you have a large WordPress site with lots of visitors and need the freedom to customize a VPS would offer. Go with Managed hosting if you don’t know what you’re doing, and go with Unmanaged hosting if you know what you’re doing.
  • Always get a coupon. Because why not? Most WordPress hosting providers offer them, so why not use them? You can save a lot if you use a coupon. Check our coupons category. When googling for coupons, watch out for those popular coupon sites that list fake, automatically generated coupons. Pro-tip: web hosting companies that advertise certain coupons on their website usually post larger discounts off-site.
  • Get the domain name from a different provider. Always separate hosting and domains. There are several reasons why you should do this, but the main reason is if you decide (or have) to move hosting providers, it’s a long, painful process to get your domain transferred. There are cases where a hosting provider has held a domain “hostage” after disabling a client’s hosting account. People think getting both from the same provider is easier, and though it may be, it’s not worth the trouble and risk in the long-run. Get a domain from a provider like Namecheap. Some people prefer separating everything, including emails and SSLs, which is also recommended.
  • Don’t let them upsell you. Go with the smallest plan or what you originally thought you need. If they’re pushing you to get a larger hosting plan, they’re just trying to upsell you. Even if you hit the limits of the original plan, most hosting providers offer a seamless upgrade to a different plan, so you can upgrade when needed.
  • Check what plugins they do (not) allow. Some WordPress hosting providers use their own caching and have their own setups, which in turn disallow popular plugins. They’ll most likely have them listed somewhere, but you can contact them and make sure they support the plugins you’re going to use. Most common disallowed plugins are caching plugins, image compressing plugins, plugins that work with the server (like redirect plugins), backup plugins and more. The disallowed plugins list is quite large with Managed WordPress hosting providers, so make sure you check that before signing up.
  • Check for technical stuff like what they’re using: PHP version (7.2 is preferred), database (MySQL or MariaDB), server (Nginx or Apache), control panel (custom one or cPanel) etc. This usually depends on what you’re going to use and what you need. So we can’t really give you a recommendation here, just a tip that you should check these stats before you sign up. They may not support PHP 7.2 for example, or you want to use cPanel and they have their own custom control panel. This usually applies to shared and reseller hosting. If it’s a VPS, then you’re most probably free to install and use anything.
  • Sometimes, smaller companies are better. This is just an opinion, but when going with a popular provider with thousands of clients, the customer support representative’s attention is probably divided into more clients. If you go with a smaller company, it’s likely that the support representative will only work with you at the moment, which gets you 100% of their attention. Not to mention that popular hosting providers are most likely to oversell and overstuff their servers. Smaller companies will value their clients a lot more compared to a large company that has thousands of clients. We’ll include some smaller companies below.
  • Find out how much they manage your WordPress. Not all “managed” hosting providers will manage your WordPress installation itself. Meaning, they will not take care of updates, they will not install plugins and themes for you, and they will not troubleshoot issues you’re having with your WordPress site. However, some do all of that on top of the actual server management. We’ll mention what they actually do below.
  • Find out if they offer a free trial or have a money-back guarantee. If you have the time, there’s nothing better than testing the hosting provider yourself. If they offer a free trial or a money-back guarantee, that’s great. Try them out. But make sure you read their ToS, there may be some fine print around the free trial offer. You may not get your money-back if you don’t provide a valid reason for it, and we’re sure they can invalidate whatever reason you give them if they wanted to.
  • Avoid HDD. Although they’re hard to come by, there are still some hosting providers that use HDD to this day. SSD is much faster and more reliable compared to HDD. All the hosting providers we’ll include below use SSD.

There are many more tips and guidelines to follow, but the main one is do your research and learn more. If you follow all our guidelines you should be good to go. You won’t even have to read our reviews or recommendations if you know how to choose a host. Just google “wordpress web hosting” or whatever and choose a provider for yourself.

A few notes about the WordPress hosting providers we featured

Before going into details, a few notes:

  • All featured hosting providers are good. We intentionally did not feature subpar providers like Bluehost, HostGator, GoDaddy, A Small Orange, 1and1 etc. Which is why it may seem that we praise all providers featured here.
  • We encourage you to do your own benchmarks and tests, though the tests we did are all publicly available. Note that you should look at the time it takes to load the page the second time as well as all other stats provided by the testing tool. Not just the fully loaded time. All tests were done on different hosting plans. So some were done on shared hosting, others on cloud hosting, and naturally – they won’t give you the same results. So if you compare the speed of one shared hosting provider, compare it with the speed of another shared hosting provider. Don’t compare shared with VPS speeds.
  • We obviously didn’t list all features a provider has to offer, so check their website for more information.
  • Pricing may be different when you’re reading this. As of publishing, all the prices are correct, but they may not be in the future. So again, check their website to make sure.
  • The prices are their renewal monthly rates. This is intentional as most of them have misleading promos like “starting from $10 per month” but it’s either only for the first month or you have to prepay for a year to get that price. Most of them offer discounts if you go for a longer billing cycle. And most of them offer a discount for the first month only.
  • Our reviews are subjective, even though we tried to make them as objective and as useful as we could. Your opinion and results may differ from ours.
  • Providers are not ranked or ordered in any particular way. If someone is featured last, it does not mean they’re the worst. The order is totally random.

And now, onto our detailed reviews of the companies:

Hostinger Benchmarks

The speed test was done via WebPagetest.org and no additional plugins or themes were installed. No posts or images were added, and nothing was configured. Everything’s tested as-is out of the box. You’ll likely get better results if you configure and set up your site. We used the Beginner (Personal) plan, their most popular plan. This test is for comparison purposes. The main number you want to be looking at is the time it takes to fully load the page, which in this case is 1.577s. A great result. The repeat view is also great – considering the site is already set up with caching by default.

Go here for the full and detailed results.

Hostinger Short Review

You’ll see Hostinger recommended everywhere, they’ve become one of the most popular hosting providers out there. This, in part, comes due to their marketing efforts, but also because of the quality of service they offer at an affordable price. Their dashboard was super easy to use and set up, and we got a WordPress site up and running in a minute or two.

  • Pros: useful custom dashboard with lots of features at an affordable price.
  • Consthe cheapest plan has limitations

WP Engine – Managed WordPress Hosting Provider for Beginners and Enterprises

You’ll see WP Engine recommended everywhere. And for a good reason. Most people have a positive experience with them and they’re quite popular when it comes to managed WordPress hosting. We’ll go into detail of all of their features and a benchmark below.

WP Engine Features

The main feature WP Engine has to offer and their pros and cons.

  • 60-day money-back guarantee. In other words, a 60-day free trial. So you can try them out risk-free and make sure they’re a good fit for you. Realistically you don’t need anything more than a week. There is no money-back guarantee for their Premium and Enterprise plans.
  • 24/7 live chat support. You can contact their WordPress experts for help any time. Their customer support team is really helpful and it’s often why everyone recommends them. There is no 24/7 phone support for their beginner plan and 24/7 ticket support is only available on their enterprise plan. Our personal prefference for technical support is always live chat and/or tickets. It’s easier to report technical issues and you have a log/history of what has been written afterward.
  • Staging sites. You can instantly create a copy of your site and use it as a staging site for testing purposes with all their plans. This is extremely useful, and highly recommended. Even though you can create a custom staging solution via plugins or manually, this is much easier, especially for beginners.
  • CDN is included for free with all their hosting plans.
  • Page performance monitoring. Get real-time data and statistics on your page’s performance and recommendations on how you can improve it for free with all of WP Engine’s hosting plans. Definitely useful to have, and it has a really nice GUI.
  • Server-side caching installed by default. All sites hosted at WP Engine have caching installed and enabled by default, so you don’t have to worry about setting up a caching plugin.
  • Multisite is supported with all their hosting plans.
  • Free SSL (https) is included with all their plans (Let’s Encrypt). There are also paid SSL options. Worth mentioning: you can’t import a third-party certificate with their Beginner plan, but you can with the other plans.
  • Automated migration. You can use their Automated Migration plugin and migrate your old site to your WP Engine account. Pretty easy to use if there are no errors. They even have a video tutorial on how to do it.
  • WP Engine Portal. They have a custom control panel (portal) that you can use to manage your account and your WP installs. You get access to logs, monitoring tools, phpMyAdmin, cache settings and many other tools. The Redirect tool is quite useful for beginners, you can manage redirects via a GUI, as opposed to managing redirects directly via your Apache/Nginx. The portal also offers a User management tool, where you can grant access to other people so they can manage your account, your WP installs, or your billing. This is especially useful for teams.
  • and more. There are many more features that WP Engine has, you can visit their website and learn more. The main features you need to know are all here. Everything you’d need as a beginner or as an enterprise is there and supported.

WP Engine Benchmarks

The speed test was done via WebPagetest.org and no additional plugins or themes were installed. No posts or images were added, and nothing was configured. Everything’s tested as-is out of the box. You’ll likely get better results if you configure and set up your site. We used the Beginner (Personal) plan, their most popular plan. This test is for comparison purposes. The main number you want to be looking at is the time it takes to fully load the page, which in this case is 1.357 seconds. A great result. Though not a direct indicator of the quality of hosting they offer. It’s also worth knowing that sites with WP Engine are set up and configured out of the box with things like caching and compressing.

Go here for the full and detailed results.

WP Engine Short Review

Definitely a safe choice for anyone. You get expert 24/7 support and a really useful portal/dashboard with many features so you can manage your sites with ease. What most people consider a negative side to WP Engine is their pricing. Granted, they are quite expensive when you consider they essentially offer shared hosting. Most of their hosting plans are in a “shared” environment. The same shared hosting environment that you can get for about $5 per month. But, you don’t get the expert support and useful dashboard with the $5 per month hosting plans. You get what you pay for after all. And if ease of use and expert support is important to you, the pricing is justified. You can get their price down by using a coupon or if you pay yearly. They also have custom plans that are not in a shared environment, you’ll have to contact them for a quote and more info. If you’re not a beginner or don’t really need the portal’s features, go with a cheaper alternative.

  • Pros: useful dashboard and expert support
  • Cons: expensive for shared hosting

For a more detailed review, you can subscribe to our notifications and get notified when we publish our detailed review of WP Engine.

WP Engine Pricing and Coupon

Expensive, but may be worth it for you.

  • STARTUP Plan – $30 per month. Main stats: up to 25K visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 10 GB storage.
  • GROWTH Plan – $115 per month. Main stats: up to 100K visitors per month, 5 WP installs, and 20 GB storage.
  • SCALE Plan – $290 per month. Main stats: up to 400K visitors per month, 15 WP installs, and 30 GB storage.

There are other custom plan options that are not in a shared hosting environment, but you’ll have to contact them to get the pricing. Visit their website for the full details of each plan.

We have an exclusive offer (coupon) for WP Engine. You can get 20% off.
Go to WP Engine and Get 20% Off
the coupon is automatically added and link-activated. Combine this coupon with their 2 months free offer on annual plans to secure 4 months free on 12 months of hosting! That’s equivalent to $23.33 per month for the cheapest plan

A2 Hosting – Fast Web Hosting Provider with Awesome Support

A2 Hosting is our go-to recommendation to everyone. They’ll most likely meet any of your requirements as they’re an all around great host. They have several options to choose from – shared, reseller, VPS, cloud, and dedicated hosting. Managed and unmanaged. They have specialized setups and optimized 1-click installers for most apps. Their customer support is super-friendly and will help you out when you most need them. They’re quite popular for their optimized setups and fast servers. cPanel, along with Softaculous and the A2 Optimized WordPress installs are a great and familiar option for beginners.

A2 Hosting Features

A list of A2 Hosting’s features with a short review of each feature:

  • A2 Optimized WordPress with a single click. Their most popular feature when it comes to WordPress is that you can install an optimized version of WordPress with caching, image compression and everything else with a single click through Softaculous. Great for beginners. You get an optimized WordPress site out of the box with a single click included for free with your control panel. You can later configure your site with their optimization plugin and turn on or off specific features with a single click through an easy to use GUI.
  • Uses cPanel. It’s not often you see managed WordPress hosting providers using cPanel. A lot of hosting providers do use cPanel, but they don’t go the extra mile and install additional add-ons, optimize their panel etc. With A2, you get an optimized environment for beginners with lots of features and options to choose from, including some WordPress-specific features.
  • Any time money-back guarantee. Again, a hosting provider must have a money-back guarantee. It’s really useful if you want to test their services risk-free. A2 goes a step further with their any time guarantee.
  • 24/7 support. They have an awesome support crew. Really helpful and knowledgeable. Support is available via tickets, phone, live chat, and a knowledge base.
  • Staging sites. One feature most WordPress hosting providers should have is the ability to create and use staging sites. A2 has a staging feature integrated into their control panel, where you can create a copy and use it as your staging site with a single click.
  • Free SSL is included with all hosting plans. They use Let’s Encrypt, but you can get a different premium SSL and use that instead.
  • Optimized servers. Aside from the A2 Optimized WordPress installs, their servers are also optimized and configured for maximum speed.
  • WP-CLI & SSH. Their hosting plans have WP-CLI and SSH enabled so have more control over your WordPress setup.
  • CDN is included for free (CloudFlare free plan) with all their hosting plans.
  • Developer access to your account. You can grant access to a developer to your A2 account which is really helpful and more secure. You can even add a sub-account to your main account that can be used for billing and everything.
  • and more. You’ll get the usual free addons like advertising credits and some SEO tools. They use PHP 7 and CloudLinux OS, which make their servers a bit faster. Check their website for more information.

A2 Hosting Benchmarks

Again, we did this speed test at WebPagetest.org and nothing was installed or configured. Everything is left as-is out of the box. If you configure your site more and enable additional features, you’ll probably get better speed results. We tested their most popular Turbo plan, but you should get similar results to their other shared hosting plans. The page fully loaded in 1.406 seconds, a similar result to WP Engine.

Go here for the full and detailed results.

A2 Hosting Short Review

A2 Hosting is a great choice for beginners. They’re actually a great choice for most apps, since they have an optimized setup and an optimized 1-click installer for most apps, but people mostly use them for WordPress, and for a good reason. We recommend them for beginners as everything can be installed and done with a couple of clicks, and they have a helpful 24/7 support team. For a shared hosting provider, they’re somewhat expensive, but it’s definitely understandable when you consider how optimized their servers and WordPress installations are. What some people consider a downside to A2 for WordPress is that they don’t really specialize in WordPress hosting only. They “divide” their specialty and attention to all kinds of apps and software, so you’re essentially buying WordPress hosting from a general host that has an optimized WordPress installation process. Another thing to be aware of is their “unlimited” stats. As we mentioned in the beginning of our tutorial, there’s no such thing as unlimited, so be careful if you plan on using a lot of storage and getting too much visitors.

  • Pros: fast and optimized WordPress install with a single click
  • Cons: beware of “unlimited”

We plan on publishing a detailed review on A2 Hosting, so subscribe to our notifications to get notified when we publish the review.

A2 Hosting Pricing and Coupon

Somewhat expensive, but understandable when you consider the optimization you get. The plans below are their shared hosting plans

  • Lite Plan – $7.99 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, 1 WP install, and unlimited storage.
  • Swift Plan – $9.99 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, unlimited WP installs, and unlimited storage.
  • Turbo Plan – $18.99 per month. Main stats: unlimited everything, and the A2 Site Accelerator with faster servers. The Accelerator is included with every WordPress hosting plan.

They also have other hosting plans like VPS, Reseller, Cloud, and even special Managed WordPress hosting plans that are quite similar to the shared ones, but use Plesk. They released them a couple of months ago so you’re better off if you get them later on, after they and their customers had a chance to properly test and optimize their new hosting plans.

  • Fully managed WordPress hosting. All of their hosting plans are fully managed, so you can leave the server work to them. You don’t have to worry about setting up and securing your server.
  • Expert 24/7 support. Kinsta’s support team is made of engineers, developers, and experts within the field. The support team is available 24/7 and ready to help. Support is available via tickets and/or live chat. Phone support is not offered, but technical support is done much better via live chat and tickets anyway.
  • Caching is implemented at server-level and you can control it via their dashboard. They also provide free Edge Caching powered by Cloudflare.
  • Custom dashboard. The dashboard has an easy-to-use GUI and features like monitoring your websites, updating plugins, a search and replace tool, and more. When creating a site, you can install WooCommerce and Yoast SEO automatically with a single click.
  • Daily backups. They are automatic, but you can also do manual backups. A really useful feature and a must-have. If a provider doesn’t offer some sort of backups, you should do your own. Even if the provider does offer backups, you should still have your own.
  • Free premium website migration is included with all plans (at least one free migration). They will move your websites for free. Most managed WordPress hosting providers offer free migrations, so nothing new here, but still worth mentioning. They offer premium migrations (the number depends on the plan) plus unlimited basic migrations from any hosts.
  • Multisite is not supported with the Starter plan. It’s supported with all the other plans.
  • Staging area. You can create a copy of your site with a single click and use your staging sites for testing purposes.
  • PHP 8+ support. You can reconfigure your server to use PHP 8.2 (or 8.0 or 8.1) with a single click. As of writing this tutorial, WP hosting providers that offer PHP 8.2 are quite rare. You can even use HHVM.
  • Free SSL with wildcard support powered by Cloudflare with a click of a button. Automated renewals.
  • Free CDN. Kinsta is integrated with Cloudflare and you’ll get a free CDN with 275+ PoPs with all their plans.
  • SSH, Git, WP-CLI, SFTP, phpMyAdmin, Kinsta API and more tools are supported. So if you’re a developer you’ll feel right at home. Though, you’re better off using an unmanaged server if you know how to work with all these tools and manage the server yourself. If you have the time, of course.
  • and more. They truly are experts and have lots of useful features when it comes to WordPress, so check their website to learn more.

Kinsta Hosting Benchmarks

All our tests were done at WebPagetest.org, and so was this Kinsta speed test. No plugins were installed, nothing was configured additionally. We left everything as-is. If you tweak your site more and configure it better, you can get better results. You can also contact them and they will optimize it for you. The default page fully loaded in 1.323 seconds. Considering the other providers’ results, this is great and better. We used a custom plan which is essentially the same as their cheapest Starter plan.

Go here for the full and detailed results.

Kinsta Hosting Short Review

Like we mentioned several times before, Kinsta is great if you want to use Google’s servers, but don’t know how. They are great for beginners and agencies. They’re scalable, so you can easily upgrade anytime. Their support is helpful and knowledgeable in WordPress. What we personally like the most about them is that they’re constantly improving and updating their portfolio of features. They’re actively getting better. One thing to note, this is actual Cloud hosting. You’re isolated from other users on their servers. So their price range is quite cheap for a fully managed WordPress cloud hosting provider. If you compare them to A2 or any other shared hosting provider, they will be more expensive, but you’re using cloud servers instead of shared hosting. If you run a small, simple WordPress website, it may be overkill to get hosting from Kinsta

  • Pros: fully managed WordPress hosting powered by Google Cloud’s premium tier network and supported by WordPress experts and enterprise-level Cloudflare integration in all plans.
  • Cons: expensive and overkill for simple websites

We’ll publish a detailed review on Kinsta, so follow us and stay tuned.

Kinsta Pricing

Again, this is fully managed cloud hosting. Not shared hosting. So their pricing is more than fair. All their plans come with enterprise-level Cloudflare integration with features like SSL certificates with wildcard support, CDN with 275+ PoPs, edge caching or a multi-layered firewall.

  • Starter Plan – $35 per month. Main stats: up to 25K visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 10 GB storage
  • Pro Plan – $70 per month. Main stats: up to 50K visitors per month, 2 WP installs, and 20 GB storage.
  • Business 1 Plan – $115 per month. Main stats: up to 100K visitors per month, 3 WP installs, and 30 GB storage

More plans are available with better stats. Check their website for more info.

If paid yearly, you get 2 months for free.

Flywheel – Fully Managed WordPress Hosting for Beginners and Agencies

Flywheel is yet another popular managed WordPress hosting provider perfect for beginners and agencies. They have lots and lots of features. Flywheel has the most number of features that a WP hosting provider has. Fast servers, friendly support, and useful custom dashboard – everything you need in a hosting provider. Check their features in detail below:

Flywheel Features

Flywheel definitely has the most number of useful features.

  • A custom dashboard. Flywheel has a beautiful and easy to use user interface – everyone can find themselves around their dashboard. You can manage your sites, handle your billing, access tools and more through the dashboard.
  • Server-side caching. Flywheel has set up caching on server-level so you don’t have to worry about setting it up locally on your site. You can manage the cache through the dashboard.
  • Free migrations. As any other managed hosting provider, Flywheel also offers free migrations. There’s no limit to the number of sites.
  • Demo sites. You can create a demo site for free and show it off to your clients. Your client can pay for the site and handle the billing afterward. This is essentially a free 14-day trial.
  • Expert 24/7 WordPress support. Their support team will even help you with small tweaks and troubleshooting errors. They’re available 24/7 for emergencies via phone, tickets, and live chat, but their working hours for “normal” tickets and issues is M-F 9am-5pm CDT.
  • Collaboration tools. You can easily share access to your sites with your teammates, clients, and developers.
  • Reseller plans. Resell their hosting plans to your clients at an extra cost. You don’t need to handle the servers, dashboard, support or anything.
  • White-label hosting option. If you’re an agency and want to start selling WordPress hosting, you can do that via Flywheel. The dashboard, invoices, a domain and everything will go through your brand name.
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt) is included with each hosting plan.
  • CDN is available with all their plans for free, along with a caching system.
  • Staging and cloning sites. Staging sites are not available in the cheapest (Tiny) plan. It’s available in all other plans.
  • and more. You should definitely visit their website and explore all their features. There are many more.

Flywheel Benchmarks

The test was done at WebPagetest.org using a demo site (all their plans are pretty similar when it comes to performance). The default WordPress page with no extra configuration or content added fully loaded in 1.267 seconds. Which is one of the best results we got. If you tweak your WP setup you’ll get even better results.

You can view the full test results here.

Flywheel Short Review

Out of all the providers we’ve tried, Flywheel has the most features with their dashboard, especially for collaboration and agencies. They have one of the fastest servers out of the box. All their hosting plans run on VPSes, so it’s not shared hosting. The custom dashboard is beautiful and easy to use, so if you’re a beginner you can easily find yourself around the dashboard and create a site. Their support team is helpful and will help you set up your sites. For agencies, you have lots options for reselling, granting access, transferring billing and payments to clients, and even a white-label option, so if you’re looking to resell WordPress hosting Flywheel is definitely the best choice. The only “downside” we noticed is that some of the advertised tools are not available in all hosting plans, but that’s expected and it’s what every hosting provider does.

  • Pros: fast servers and a great custom dashboard with lots of features
  • Cons: some of the advertised tools are not available in all hosting plans

Detailed Flywheel review coming soon. Subscribe to our notifications and stay tuned.

Flywheel Pricing

Pricing is really fair considering you’re getting a fully managed server with an extensive custom dashboard. They have custom plans and pricing, so contact them if you can’t find a fit on their website.

  • Tiny Plan – $15 per month. Main stats: up to 5K visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 5 GB storage.

  • Agency Plan – $290 per month. Main stats: up to 400K visitors per month, 30 WP installs, and 50 GB storage

DreamPress – Managed WordPress Hosting Recommended by WP.org

DreamHost is a popular hosting provider that’s been in business since 1997 and they’ve been recommended on WordPress.org since 2007. Though, again, that may not be a good ‘seal of approval’. Staying in business for that long and not selling out to EIG says something. Based on reviews, they have customers that have been with them for more than a decade. They offer various hosting plans, including managed WordPress hosting. Though their managed WP plans do not have as many features as other providers have.

DreamPress Features

Or lack thereof.

  • One-click Installer. They offer a one-click installer for WordPress. So if you are a beginner you can easily install WP with a couple of clicks.
  • Free JetPack Pro. If you get their Plus or Advanced hosting plans, you’ll also get JetPack Pro for free.
  • Website migration is not free. Migration services start at $99 per website. This is quite unusual for a managed hosting provider. Most of the providers offer this service for free.
  • Custom dashboard. They have a custom dashboard but it still lacks features. It just has the basic features like setting up domains and installing WordPress. Definitely not as many features as other managed WP hosting providers have. User management/access is only available if you purchase another hosting account. Definitely not as easy and as cheap as it is with other hosting providers.
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt) is included with all hosting plans.
  • Staging area. It’s only available with their more expensive plans, not with the Basic and Plus plans. This is a new featured they introduced just recently in their new WP hosting plans.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee. Essentially a free trial. Try them and get your money back within 30 days if you are not satisfied with their services.
  • Server-level caching is set up on all DreamPress plans. So you don’t have to worry about caching, or anything server-related for that matter.
  • Free email hosting is included with all hosting plans. Though we don’t recommend using the same hosting provider for both email and website hosting. You should separate the two.
  • 24/7 support. Their WordPress support team is available 24/7 and they’re quite helpful.
  • Daily Backups are included in all hosting plans. If you get the more expensive plans with JetPack Pro, you can use JetPack for better backups.
  • and more. Not much more though. Check their website to learn more about DreamHost.

DreamPress Benchmarks

The test was done at WebPagespeed.org and nothing was configured or changed. Everything is left as-is from the moment we installed WordPress. The results we got were good. The default WordPress page fully loaded in 1.496 seconds.

Go here for the full test results.

DreamPress Short Review

We’ve been using DreamHost for unmanaged Cloud hosting for quite a while now and they’ve been great. We were somewhat disappointed when we tested their DreamPress hosting. It really does lack features a managed WordPress hosting provider should have, like free migrations, user access control etc. This has become the standard since all managed hosting providers offer similar features. The not-free migrations thing is also a disadvantage. All managed hosting providers should offer free migrations. At least one. And at least for simple websites/migrations. Paying $99 per website migration is extremely expensive, especially if it’s a simple WordPress website. You’re better off using a different hosting provider or let experts do it for you. You should use DreamHost, but probably not for WordPress.

  • Pros: Free JetPack Pro with some plans
  • Cons: lack of features and no free migrations

We’ll write a detailed DreamHost review soon, so stay tuned.

DreamPress Pricing

The actual month-to-month pricing is:

  • Basic Plan – $20 per month. Main stats: up to 10k visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 5 GB Storage
  • Plus Plan – $30 per month. Main stats: up to 30k visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 10 GB Storage. JetPack Pro is included for free, as well as Elasticsearch and a Video/Image CDN.
  • Advanced Plan$40 per month. Main stats: up to 60k visitors per month, 2 WP installs, and 15 GB Storage and everything extra from the Plus plan.

The prices are cheaper if pay annually. Visit them for more information.

DreamHost doesn’t offer coupons, but they do have a promo where you get 15% off each month if you go for a yearly billing cycle.

  • and more. They have much more features that you can learn about at their website.

Savvii Benchmarks

The test was done at WebPagespeed.org and nothing was configured or changed. Everything is left as-is from the moment we created our account. We got great results. The default WordPress homepage fully loaded in 0.934 seconds. The results may be a bit skewed here compared to the other providers because we tested them from a different server location.

Savvii Short Review

We already did a dedicated review for Savvii, so you can read a detailed review there. In short, they’re a great option if you need an easy solution where you can do almost everything with a single click. They make that part easy.

WPMU DEV Hosting – Fully Featured, Fully Managed WordPress Cloud Hosting Platform

WPMU DEV is a popular WordPress platform where you can manage your WordPress sites, get support and get plugins. You can also host your sites on the recently introduced WPMU DEV Hosting platform. Read our full review of WPMU DEV’s hosting here.

WPMU DEV Hosting Features

Their hosting platform is pretty feature-rich. We’ll go over some of the features:

  • A staging environment where you can create new staging sites with a single click. It’s usually a bit more complicated with other hosts. You can even push the staging site to production or reset it with a single click.
  • You can manage your database via phpMyAdmin, without having to log in each time, it’s easily accessible with a single click.
  • A free domain is included (yourdomain.wpmudev.host), but you can add your own custom domain via the dashboard.
  • You can create separate SFTP and SSH accounts for each site.
  • A password-protect feature where the site is hidden from visitors and can only be accessed with a password. This is really handy if you’re still working on a site, and want to hide it from the outside world. You don’t have to install any extra “under construction” plugins. A password can be added with a single click via the dashboard.
  • If you have a site added to the hub, but isn’t hosted at WPMU DEV, you can migrate the site to the WPMU DEV hosting via their platform.
  • The Analytics tab can be used to track views and used bandwidth, get live stats for CPU and RAM usage, live stats for PHP request, etc.
  • and more. You can get a free trial and explore their features. There are more features that are included in their hub, but are not a specific part of their hosting control panel, like updating plugins and themes, monitoring uptime, a white-label feature where all plugin names can be renamed and the WPMU DEV branding can be hidden from your clients, etc.

WPMU DEV Hosting Benchmarks

As per usual with other hosts, we did a simple speed test on a default WordPress site without making any changes.

The homepage fully loaded in 1.2 seconds, which is a great result, better than most other hosts.

You can view the full test results here.

If you get a better plan or tweak the image compression, CDN, and caching more, you’ll get better results. WPMU DEV has great tutorials on their site.

WPMU DEV Hosting Short Review

All in all – they’re a great option. Easy to use, fast cloud hosting with lots of features, especially if you decide to use their hub with all their plugins. Everything just fits and works perfectly. They aren’t the cheapest though, so if you expect quality support with lots of features, you’ve got to pay for it.

Bear in mind that this is still a fairly new hosting platform so you may notice some oddities here and there. Make sure to report them.

They’re always improving and they always accept feedback and feature requests from the community, so you can expect more features and improvements soon.

  • Pros: helpful support team, great dashboard (control panel)
  • Cons: no built-in file manager, expensive, no user/access control

WPMU DEV Hosting Pricing

WPX Hosting Short Review

WPX has one of the best custom dashboards we’ve come across. Beautiful and very easy to use, especially for beginners. Their customer support is fast, helpful, and knowledgeable. They even support and help homeless dogs, so they’re a charitable business. Big props to them. The virtual environment and 1-click installer with server caching and everything will make sure you have a fast website. Their support team will help you optimize your website too. They are a bit pricey, but considering the options and features you get, it’s well worth it.

  • Pros: fast servers, great 24/7 support, easy to use dashboard
  • Cons: expensive

WPX Hosting Pricing

Expensive, but it’s all relative. Considering what you get with that price, it’s well worth it. It’s even cheaper compared to other hosting providers here with less features.

  • and more. Check their website for a full list of their features.

FastComet Benchmarks

A test at WebPagespeed.org showed similar results to other shared hosting providers. A default WP homepage with no extra configurations fully loaded in 1.504 seconds. If you get a better plan with the extra caching features or if you set up your WordPress better, you should get better results.

FastComet Short Review

For a shared hosting provider, the features they offer and the speed we got is great. Their support is always available and ready to help, they also have an extensive knowledgebase and a community. So with all of that and cPanel’s ease of use, FastComet is great for beginners. They also don’t have any advanced features like a staging area.

  • Cons: no advanced features

We’ll write a detailed FastComet review, so subscribe to our notifications and stay tuned.

Liquid Web – Fully Managed Hands-Off WordPress Hosting

Liquid Web are one of the best and most popular managed server hosting providers. Their 24/7 “Hero” support is an industry-best. Their fairly new managed WordPress hosting plans offer new features that you can rarely find in other WP hosts. You get expert 24/7 support, an easy dashboard, and a hands-off experience altogether that doesn’t require much (if any) work from you.

Liquid Web Features

Features that make your work EASY.

  • 24/7 Hero support. They’re most famous for their great 24/7 support. Always available, quick response and resolution times (they even have a response time guarantee), and they’re experts in what they do.
  • Automatic plugin updates. The best feature of Liquid Web’s Managed WordPress plans is their automatic plugin updates. Apart from the core updates that every host does automatically, they go one step further and offer automatic plugin updates too. With their visual comparison feature, your site is compared before and after a plugin update, and if everything looks good they push out the updates. So you don’t have to worry about a plugin update breaking your site. If you don’t like this feature, you can turn it off with a single click.
  • Staging area. You can create a staging website and copy it back to your live environment with a couple of clicks.
  • Caching and image compression pre-installed. Everything is pre-installed and ready to go, including Varnish caching and image compression.
  • iThemes Sync Pro for free. If you get a WP hosting plan from Liquid Web other than the cheapest Personal plan, you’ll also get iThemes Sync Pro for free. iThemes Sync Pro includes multiple sites management tools, monitoring tools, tracking Google Analytics data, SEO tools, and much more.
  • Free SSL. All websites have an SSL automatically pre-installed for free.
  • Free CDN. CloudFlare is automatically pre-installed and configured on your websites.
  • 1-click installer. Installing WordPress with everything hasn’t been easier. You can even create a site stencil which is a sort of a template. So the next time you add a site, you can use your stencil and everything will be pre-configured to your liking.
  • Automatic daily backups. They automatically backup all your websites on a daily basis for free. You can also manually backup your sites any time you’d like to.
  • and more. Their custom dashboard has lots of features and tools you can use.

Liquid Web Benchmarks

And again, this speed test was done at WebPagetest.org on a default WP install from LiqudWeb. Nothing was configured or changed. The default WordPress homepage fully loaded in 1.545 seconds. You can probably get it faster if you configure your website or contact their support team and they will help you out.

Liquid Web Short Review

Liquid Web are perfect for beginners (or anyone, really) that doesn’t want to worry about managing their WordPress site. Everything is pre-configured, everything is automatically updated and backed up, and you always have expert 24/7 support to help you. The free iThemes Sync Pro is a great addon which help you manage your WordPress sites hands-free even more. All in all, Liquid Web‘s WP plans are “set and forget”. The only thing that people don’t really like about them is their pricing. They are the most expensive managed WordPress hosting provider, but when you consider all the features you get, it’s well worth it.

  • Pros: automatic plugin updates, expert 24/7 support
  • Cons: expensive

Liquid Web Pricing

One of the most expensive WP hosting providers, but worth it.

  • Personal Plan – $69 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, 5TB Bandwidth, 1 WP install, and 30 GB storage.
  • Professional Plan – $99 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, 5TB Bandwidth, 10 WP installs, and 50 GB storage.
  • Business Plan – $149 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, 5TB Bandwidth, 25 WP installs, and 100 GB storage.

They have more Managed WP plans to choose from, or you can go with a managed VPS or dedicated server. Visit their website to learn more.

They are quite expensive, but make sure you use a coupon so you can get a lower price.

Hawk Host – Cheap Shared WordPress Hosting with 24/7 Support

HawkHost is a cheap hosting provider that’s often recommended in the WebHostingTalk forums and /r/webhosting subreddit. Hawk Host always gets positive reviews, and we’ve recommended them quite a lot before, including as a managed VPS provider. For the quality services and 24/7 support you get, their prices are more than affordable. Their shared hosting plans are great for smaller WordPress sites. However, they are unlimited, even their cheapest shared hosting plan. So like we mentioned before, beware of “unlimited”.

Hawk Host Features

Cheap, yet full of features.

  • 24/7 Support. The support team is always fast to reply. It’s available via live chat, tickets, and the community forum. No phone support.
  • cPanel. They offer shared hosting and we’re featuring their shared hosting plans, so naturally, they do it via the familiar and popular cPanel.
  • 1-click installer. You can install WordPress with a single click via Softaculous through the control panel.
  • Free migrations. They will migrate your website for free – included in all hosting plans.
  • Free CDN (CloudFlare) is included with all hosting plans and it’s easily installable via cPanel (with a couple of clicks)
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt) is included with all hosting plans. You can add an SSL to your domains with a couple of clicks via cPanel. Hawk Host is an official Let’s Encrypt sponsor.
  • PHP 7.2 is supported at Hawk Host. Not a lot shared hosting providers support 7.2 at the moment of writing this.
  • A stating site can be created via Softaculous.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee. If you’re unsatisfied, you can get your money back within 30 days of ordering. So a 30-day free trial.
  • Unlimited. Most of their stats are unlimited, even with their cheapest shared hosting plan. Some consider this a downside, and some a feature. Either way, you can use as many domains and databases as you want.
  • and more. Visit Hawk Host to learn more.

Hawk Host Benchmarks

The speed test was done at WebPagetest.org on a default WordPress installation. Nothing extra was configured or added. If you do something extra, you’ll probably get a better result. The homepage fully loaded in 1.694 seconds. Not the best result with gotten so far, but for a shared hosting plan – it’s okay.

Click here for the full speed test results.

Hawk Host Short Review

They’re often recommended in WebHostingTalk and /r/webhosting – which are 2 of the best “seal of approvals” you can get by a community. We’ve personally used them for a couple of small sites for years and they have been great. Support is always helpful, and their prices are extremely cheap. You don’t get as many features as you would get with a specialized WordPress host, but you get what you pay for after all. Most of the stats are unlimited, but the specific stat you should be aware of is the unmetered traffic and unlimited disk space. There’s no such thing.

  • Pros: cheap with great 24/7 support
  • Cons: beware of “unlimited”

Hawk Host Pricing

They’re one of the cheapest hosting providers we’ve featured so far. Maybe THE cheapest. No tricks, no hidden fees, same renewal rates and everything. One of the few hosts that don’t use those cheap marketing tricks when it comes to pricing.

  • Primary Plan – $4.99 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, unlimited WP installs, and 10 GB storage.
  • Professional Plan – $9.99 per month. Main stats: everything’s unlimited.

All of their coupons are lifetime coupons, so be sure to use a coupon for Hawk Host, we even have a unique coupon. You’ll get even lower prices. Their shared hosting plans are great for smaller WordPress websites.

eUKhost – UK-Based Managed WordPress Shared Hosting

A UK web hosting provider that offers various web hosting plans – including managed WordPress hosting. They are a recommended provider by the /r/webhosting community and thousands of other positive reviews on Facebook and Google+. If you need a UK-based host then eUKhost is a perfect choice – they have a helpful 24/7 support team and they use the Plesk control panel

eUKhost Features

They offer a wide range of hosting services with many features, but we’ll focus on the main features:

  • 24/7 support via live chat, tickets, and phone. eUKhost even has a community forum where you can get support and more information. The one thing most people love them for is their knowledgeable and friendly support team.
  • Plesk control panel. They offer the Plesk control panel with their shared WordPress hosting plans. It’s definitely not as popular as cPanel, but it’s just as easy to use. Some people prefer Plesk over cPanel, so if you’re one of them, eUKhost is perfect for you. You can use Plesk for everything, and you can use their WordPress toolkit to manage all your WordPress installs, including updating themes, plugins, and core. Their control panel has a User management feature where you can grant access and control to other people.
  • 1-click WordPress installer. You can install WordPress using their Toolkit via Plesk. While installing, you have an option to choose if you want a set of plugins pre-installed, like WP Super Cache, Yoast SEO, and more.
  • Staging area. Their staging area is not as advanced as other WordPress-only hosting providers have, but you can use their control panel to make copies of your WordPress installs with a single click. You can use those copies as staging sites.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee. You can try them out for 30 days, and cancel if not satisfied. They also have an Anytime money-back guarantee which means that you can cancel anytime in your annual billing cycle and get a refund for all the unused months left.
  • Daily backups. Free and automated daily backups. So no worries.
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt) is included with all hosting plans and it’s installable with a single click.
  • Free WordPress migrations are included with all WordPress hosting plans.
  • and more. They have a lot more features, including all the usual features any decent shared hosting provider has. Check their website for more info.

eUKhost Benchmarks

The test was, again, done at WebPagespeed.org with similar settings as all other tests. We had to edit this one as the server location was in the UK so we had to pick a closer location. The results were great, considering we were testing their cheapest Starter shared hosting plan. Nothing was changed or installed on the WordPress installation itself. The page fully loaded in 1.227 seconds.

You can get the full results here.

eUKhost Short Review

eUKhost is a highly recommended host by their customers and reputable web hosting communities like WHT and /r/webhosting. That alone is a big enough tell that eUKhost’s services are great. Where most hosting providers offer several server locations to choose from, eUKhost only has UK-based locations, as their name suggests. So if you’re looking for UK hosting, then eUKhost is a great choice, but if you need other locations you need to look elsewhere. Most (if not all) hosting providers offer server locations from all around the world. Their control panel could have a better staging area, that’s the main thing their dashboard is lacking. Plesk can also be difficult for people that are used to cPanel, though Plesk is still very easy to use. The biggest disadvantage is that there is no monthly billing cycle for their cheaper plans. Only quarterly, semi-annually, annually, and biennially. An upside to this downside is that you get a free domain if you use a longer billing term. And they have an Anytime money-back guarantee. You can cancel anytime and you’ll get a refund for all the months left unused.

  • Pros: great customer support
  • Cons: no monthly billing cycle and needs a better staging area

eUKhost Pricing

Given their quality services and offers, the pricing is fair and affordable. Aside from shared WordPress hosting, you can also use a VPS/cloud server. Pricing below is converted in US dollars for consistency, their actual prices are in British Pounds and may differ.

  • Starter (Shared Hosting) Plan – $5.59 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, up to 5 WP installs, and 5 GB storage.
  • Standard (Shared Hosting) Plan – $14 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, up to 20 WP installs, and 20 GB storage.
  • Professional (VPS/Cloud Hosting) Plan – $42 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, unlimited WP installs, and 50 GB storage.

Again, their original and actual prices are in British Pounds, so go to their website to get the actual pricing.

If you go for a longer billing cycle (annual, semi-annual) then you’ll automatically get a discount. You can also use a coupon.

IO Zoom – Managed WordPress Shared and VPS Hosting

IO Zoom is a web hosting provider offering various shared and VPS hosting services, including fully managed WordPress hosting. Similar to eUKhost, IO Zoom also use Plesk. So many of their features will be similar. Even their pricing structure is similar, in that they don’t offer monthly billing cycles with their cheapest shared hosting plan. However, they are not related. Because of that, IO Zoom is a great alternative to eUKhost since they have more server locations around the world. They get great reviews on Facebook and Twitter and they’re a favorite among many, especially for WordPress hosting.

IO Zoom Features

IO Zoom has the usual features you’d need in a web hosting provider:

  • 24/7 support. They are available via live chat and tickets. Quite friendly and very knowledgeable. But they do not offer phone support.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee. Try them out and get your money back within 30 days if not satisfied.
  • Plesk or cPanel/WHM. Their WordPress hosting plans ship with the Plesk control panel, but cPanel/WHM is available as an addon. You can install themes and plugins and update them via Plesk.
  • Staging. Using Plesk, you can clone your sites with a single click and create a staging version of them.
  • 1-click installer. You can install WordPress with a single click through Plesk or cPanel.
  • Automated and free migrations. Their Plesk control panel has an automated migration feature that’s very easy to use. You can use it to migrate your sites, or contact their support team to help you out.
  • Daily backups are included with all their WordPress hosting plans.
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt) is included with all their hosting plans.
  • and more. Visit their website to learn more.

IO Zoom Benchmarks

The test was done yet again at WebPagespeed.org with a default WordPress installation (with the LiteSpeed Cache plugin). No extra configurations. Nothing was added or changed. The default WP homepage fully loaded in 1.614 seconds. You’ll probably get better results if you set up and optimize your WordPress, or alternatively, you can use their WordPress VPS hosting plans instead of the cheapest WordPress shared hosting plan we used for this test.

IO Zoom Short Review

IO Zoom is a popular web hosting provider that offers various hosting plans, including WordPress shared and VPS hosting plans. Their customer support is friendly and ready to help 24/7. They use the Plesk control panel by default with their WordPress hosting plans, but you can use cPanel for an extra fee. The downsides are similar to eUKhost. IO Zoom doesn’t have a monthly billing cycle for their cheapest shared hosting plan and their staging area is not as good as the WordPress-only hosting providers have. They also offer “unlimited” bandwidth and visitors, even with their cheapest hosting plan. So make sure you go through their ToS.

  • Pros: great customer support
  • Cons: no monthly billing cycle with their cheapest shared hosting plan, has a setup fee, and needs a better staging area

IO Zoom Pricing

They don’t offer monthly billing cycles for their cheapest shared hosting plan, but other than that they are pretty fair and affordable.

  • Personal (Shared Hosting) Plan – $7 per month and a $14.95 setup fee. 6-month billing cycle minimum. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, up to 2 WP installs, and 10 GB storage.
  • Professional (Shared Hosting) Plan – $12 per month and a $19.95 setup fee. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, unlimited WP installs, and 20 GB storage.
  • WP 2GB (VPS Hosting) Plan – $23 per month. Main stats: unlimited visitors per month, unlimited WP installs, and 20 GB storage. Price includes cPanel and Softaculous.

They have more shared and VPS hosting plans to choose from, so go to their website and check them out.

Semi-annual, annual and biannual plans have an automatically applied discount.

Pressidium – Perfect Managed WordPress Hosting for Resellers and Agencies

Pressidium runs on HA, scalable and fast cloud servers – all secured and managed for you. Their custom dashboard is extremely easy to use and it’s full of features. You can use Pressidium for personal (small) projects, but we recommend them for resellers and agencies because they have many integrations and features available for resellers. Like a white-label option where you can send invoices and get support requests, a Stripe integration and more. It’s very easy to set up. You can start your own WordPress hosting brand in a matter of minutes.

Pressidium Features

Everything you’d need in a managed WordPress hosting provider, and more.

  • 24/7 expert support. Pressidium has one of the most knowledegable WordPress support teams in the market. They are available 24/7 via tickets only and will help you with anything related to your WordPress. Though they don’t offer live chat support, they’re still fast to reply in their tickets.
  • Custom dashboard with many features. Their custom dashboard is one of the best ones we’ve tried because it’s so easy to use and has all the features you’d need in a managed WP host.
  • 60-day money-back guarantee. Most hosts usually offer either a 30-day or a 45-day money-back guarantee. Pressidium offer a 60-day money-back guarantee which tells you that they’re sure you’re gonna love them. You can extensively test and try them out for 60 days and get your money back if you’re not satisfied.

Pressidium Benchmarks

A speed test at WebPagespeed.org. Everything is left as-is after we installed WordPress. And you can install WordPress with a single click, without worrying about caching or anything like that, since it’s all pre-installed. We got great results, their servers are fast and you don’t have to configure anything extra. The default WP homepage fully loaded in 1.281 seconds. One of the fastest results we’ve gotten so far.

Go here for the full and detailed results.

Pressidium Short Review

Pressidium is definitely one of our favorites out of all the managed WP hosts we’ve tried so far. Mainly because of their dashboard and all the features they offer.  We only covered a small part of their features in this section, but we highly advise you to check out their website and learn more. The only downsides we could find are the pricing (which is justified), and how limited their cheaper plans are. For example, multisite is not supported with their 2 cheapest plans, and HHVM is only supported with their more expensive plans. Their pricing may be overkill for a simple website, but if you want ease of use, speed, and reliability, then it’s definitely worth it. You get what you pay for after all, which is why you get an extensive custom dashboard with this kind of pricing, and cPanel or Plesk with dirt-cheap pricing. The one thing we noticed people often add as a downside to Pressidium is that it’s not for beginners. We strongly disagree. Their dashboard is quite easy to use, and their extensive knowledgebase will guide you through every step. Every email you get from the start has links to relevant knowledgebase articles and they are available 24/7 for help. They don’t provide live chat support, but they are quite fast when responding to tickets.

  • Pros: useful dashboard with many features and expert 24/7 support
  • Cons: expensive and no live chat support

We’ll write a detailed review for Pressidium soon, so subscribe to our notifications and we’ll let you know when it’s published.

Pressidium Pricing and Coupon

They have many plans to choose from, but we’ll only include some:

  • Micro Plan – $24.90 per month. Main stats: up to 10K visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 5 GB storage.
  • Professional Plan – $49.90 per month. Main stats: up to 30K visitors per month, 3 WP installs, and 10 GB storage.
  • Business Plan – $149.90 per month. Main stats: up to 100K visitors per month, 10 WP installs, and 20 GB storage.

There are more plans to choose from, even Enterprise plans with much more features, so check their website for more.

If you go for an annual billing cycle then you get 2 months for free (applied automatically). You can get 2 additional free months on top of the default 2 by using a coupon.

KnownHost – Fully Managed WordPress Hosting with Awesome 24/7 Support

KnownHost is a pretty well-known managed hosting provider. They’ve been offering managed servers for years, later on they added shared hosting to their portfolio. Recently they started offering managed WordPress hosting. They have one of the best customer support teams in the market – extremely knowledgeable, always available, friendly, and ready to help.

KnownHost features

Their Managed WordPress hosting plans are still fairly new, so you can expect a lot more features in the future.

  • 24/7 support. As we already mentioned, they really do have one of the best support teams out there. And that’s one of the most important factors for managed hosting. Available via tickets/email. No live chat support. The live chat is only used for sales.
  • 1-click installer. WordPress is pre-installed when you purchase your hosting plan, with caching and some pre-installed plugins.
  • Custom dashboard. Though the dashboard doesn’t have many advanced features, you can still manage your WordPress install via the dashboard – reset admin password, updates, and more.
  • Automatic plugin and theme updates. What makes KnownHost’s managed WP plans different from most is the automatic plugin and theme updates. Most hosts offer automatic core updates only, but KnownHost goes a step further with their automatic plugin updates. They always notify you days prior to actually updating the plugins and give you a chance to do it yourself so you can test them out.
  • Automatic daily backups. Off-server daily backups are done automatically. There’s a 3-day retention. You can contact KH to restore the backup for you.
  • Free migrations. They will migrate your websites for free – without any downtime.
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt) is included with all hosting plans. It’s automatically installed once your DNS propagates.
  • and more.  Check their website for more info. And expect more features coming soon.

KnownHost Benchmarks

This speed test was also done at WebPagetest.org with the default WP installation from KnownHost. No changes were made, nothing extra was configured. The default WP homepage fully loaded in 1.239 seconds. It’s one of the best results we’ve gotten, and definitely one of the fastest hosts we’ve tested.

Click here for the full results.

KnownHost Short Review

We can’t say enough good things about their support team. They’re Known for being friendly and knowledgeable, especially for their VPS plans. The best thing about KH’s WP plans, apart from the support, is their automatic plugin and theme updates which is rare in the other providers we featured here. It’s a great time saver. You literally don’t have to worry about anything, including updates. It’s truly a fully managed hosting plan. Their dashboard can do a bit of work though, it doesn’t have as many features as other providers here have. They don’t have a staging area, and they limit their hosting plans to a single website only. You cannot share access to the dashboard to other users other than for billing purposes. Their Managed WP plans are fairly new, so they’re working on improving their dashboard, including a new staging area.

  • Pros: automatic plugin and theme updates and great 24/7 support
  • Cons: no staging area, plans limited to a single website

KnownHost Pricing

Considering what you get for the price, and the fact that most of the time they offer recurring discounts, their pricing is fair and pretty cheap. They only have 2 WordPress hosting plans:

  • WP-1 Plan – $11.95 per month. Main stats: up to 100K visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 50 GB storage.
  • WP-2 Plan – $19.95 per month. Main stats: up to 200K visitors per month, 1 WP install, and 100 GB storage.

They do offer fully managed VPS hosting plans if you’re looking for something with more control and better features, but they don’t have the same dashboard and WordPress features.

KnownHost often has recurring discounts, so make sure to check for the latest discounts they have.

A 50% discount is automatically applied to your first month during sign up.

Cloudways – Fully Managed, Scalable WordPress Cloud Hosting

What’s great about Cloudways, besides their awesome 24/7 support, is that they are powered by popular cloud server providers like DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, Google, AWS and more. So if you don’t know how to use and manage the servers at those cloud hosting providers, then Cloudways is a perfect fit for you. They will manage the server for you, and they have an easy to use dashboard for beginners. Cloudways is quite active in the WordPress community too, which is great. You can actually use their servers for other apps besides WordPress, and you can have an unlimited number of apps with each plan.

Cloudways Features

They have quite a lot of features, but here are some:

  • Powered by popular cloud hosting providers. Like we mentioned earlier, you’ll actually be using the servers and infrastructure of DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr and other similar providers, but you’ll be using it on the Cloudways platform with the 24/7 help of experts. And you don’t pay extra for the cloud servers, you only pay the Cloudways price.
  • 24/7 support. Their support team is one of the best. Friendly, knowledgeable, and always available for help. They even have a community forum where Cloudways reps and other users provide free support. Support is available via live chat and tickets. Phone is available for sales only.
  • Hourly billing. You pay as much as you use your servers and apps. You don’t have to pay for a whole month if you only plan on using Cloudways for a few hours.
  • Free trial and credits. You can always try them out for free, or get free credits and use them for some free usage.
  • Free SSL (Let’s Encrypt). You can add an SSL for free with a couple of clicks via their dashboard.
  • Website cloning. It’s not really a staging area, but you can clone your apps/websites with a couple of clicks. You can then use the cloned app for your staging website.
  • Hourly backups. You can make full backups of your server on an hourly, daily, and weekly basis. Backup retention depends on your account. You may be charged extra depending on your backup preferences, so check their knowledgebase to learn more about backups.
  • 1-click installation. You can install WordPress on your server with a single click. There are multiple options available – a clean install, an optimized install by Cloudways (recommended), a multisite install, a WooCommerce install and more.
  • And more. You’re essentially using a VPS (without root access), so you can install, use, and do pretty much anything on your server. That alone gives you a limitless number of features, but their dashboard does have more features, so we encourage you to try them out using their free trial.

Cloudways Benchmarks

Another test at WebPagespeed.org. Nothing was configured, nothing was changed. The default WP homepage fully loaded in 1.422 seconds. This is a server, so make sure you optimize your server more. Contact them for help. You can get a far better loading speed if you properly optimize your server or scale up to a more powerful server.

Go here for the full results of this speed test.

Cloudways Short Review

All the cloud hosting providers that Cloudways is powered by are great. And their support team is great. So you get the best of both worlds. A powerful infrastructure and managed support. Their dashboard is easy to use, and you can use it for other unlimited apps and websites besides WordPress, which is one of their biggest advantages. They are pretty cheap, even compared to other providers here. They’re one of the cheapest managed VPS providers out there. So if your budget is thin and you still want a fast server with 24/7 support, Cloudways is a perfect choice. We personally wouldn’t recommend Cloudways to total beginners. Though they are managed, have a pretty good dashboard and 24/7 support, there’s still a learning curve for beginners. All that server mumbo-jumbo would be confusing to total beginners. People can easily find their way around cPanel or a dashboard like the one other providers featured here have, but we can’t say the same for the Cloudways dashboard. So if you haven’t even heard of servers before, then Cloudways may not be a good option for you.

  • Pros: 24/7 support and cheap, scalable cloud servers with hourly billing
  • Cons: not recommended for total beginners

Cloudways Pricing

Vultr – WordPress Cloud Hosting for Developers

Last, but not least, Vultr. Right off the bat, if you’re a beginner, don’t use Vultr. They are an unmanaged cloud server provider. They won’t manage your server for you. They won’t help you with your WordPress sites. Vultr and other providers alike are only recommended for developers and experienced Linux admins. They’re one of the best cloud hosting providers with the fastest servers. Vultr offers a 1-click solution for WordPress which basically installs WordPress on a CentOS 6 (64bit) server. You get full root access to the server after that and you’re on your own.

Vultr Features

Since you’re going to get a server with full root access, you’re basically limitless. You can have as many features as you’ll set up.

  • Hourly billing. Like many other cloud hosting providers, Vultr offer hourly billing. So if you don’t plan on using your server for a while, you can only be billed for the hours you have used it.
  • Fast infrastructure. All the latest and most powerful hardware, great uptime, dozens of locations to choose from around the world.
  • Advanced and easy to use dashboard. It’s not a WordPress-specific dashboard, but a portal that you can use to manage your server and account. It’s quite easy to use and many advanced features.
  • Full access to your server. You get full root access to your server, so you can install whatever you want. Stuff like Let’s Encrypt and any kind of caching can be installed.
  • and more. You can basically have anything you know how to install and set up. You can make the process easier by using something like Centmin Mod, but in that case go with the latest Ubuntu LTS iso instead of the one-click install WordPress App.

Vultr Benchmarks

This speed test may be a bit unfair to Vultr as nothing was configured or added to the server other than the default WP install from their one-click feature. Most other providers implement caching and compression out of the box, but the installation we tested at Vultr had nothing. You can drastically improve your loading time if you optimize the server and WP install yourself. We did the test same as all other providers, at WebPagespeed.org. The default WP homepage fully loaded in 1.373 seconds.

Vultr Short Review

It highly depends on you and your skills on how good Vultr is. Don’t expect support for your server or WordPress installation. Vultr is an unmanaged provider. As for uptime, speed, and reliability, Vultr really is one of the best providers. Not only that we don’t recommend Vultr to beginners, we wouldn’t even recommend them to anyone that’s not at least intermediate in Linux administration. You have to know how to run and manage a VPS so you can keep your server and websites secure, fast, and reliable.

  • Pros: full access to your fast, scalable Vultr server
  • Cons: not recommended for beginners at all

Vultr Pricing

They are pretty cheap and similar to other cloud hosting providers. Here are some of their hosting plans:

  • VC2 20GB Plan – $2.50 per month. Main stats: 500 GB monthly bandwidth, unlimited WP installs, 512 MB RAM, 1 CPU core, and 20 GB storage.
  • VC2 25GB Plan – $5 per month. Main stats: 1 TB monthly bandwidth, unlimited WP installs, 1 GB RAM, 1 CPU core, and 25 GB storage.
  • VC2 40GB Plan – $10 per month. Main stats: 2 TB monthly bandwidth, unlimited WP installs, 2 GB RAM, 1 CPU core, and 40 GB storage.
  • VC2 60GB Plan – $20 per month. Main stats: 3 TB monthly bandwidth, unlimited WP installs, 4 GB RAM, 2 CPU cores, and 60 GB storage.

They have more plans to choose from, even dedicated servers and block storage. Go to their website to find out more.

Best WordPress Hosting Providers – FAQs

This is a pretty big guide, so here are some questions and answers:

Why haven’t you featured ____?

Either because they are not good enough or we haven’t heard of them. If they are a host like Bluehost, HostGator, A Small Orange, or any other EIG host, we intentionally didn’t include them. Otherwise feel free to leave a comment and suggest other providers. We do have a quite large list of providers we plan to include in the future.

Can you add my WordPress hosting company?

Depends. Can it compare to the other providers featured here? Have you been in business for at least a year? Do you have positive (real) reviews? If yes, contact us and we’ll sign up for your services and test/review them.

Why didn’t you add any info about the number of databases allowed, emails etc?

We feel like anything we excluded from our comparisons and overviews is not that important when comparing providers. We only included the most important bits of information. You’ll need to find out the rest yourself.

Most managed WP hosting providers don’t offer email hosting. Even if they do, we usually recommend that you separate email, website, and domain services. Don’t get everything from the same provider.

You’ve made a mistake at ____, can you correct it?

Sure. This article was huge and it took a lot of work to complete. We reviewed it but there’s bound to have some errors. Please leave a comment or contact us and we’ll update it ASAP. Thanks!

So what’s the best WordPress hosting provider? Why complicate things?

There’s not a single “best” hosting provider. It all depends on what you need, what you want, and what you can get. That’s why we went into details, so we can make it easier for you to compare.

What’s the best host provider for beginners?

Any of them, except Vultr or Cloudways. All of them offer 24/7 support, 1-click installation, and an easy to use control panel.

So who’s the fastest WordPress host?

Generally, the Cloud hosting providers are faster. However, it all depends on what kind of a site you have, how it’s configured, how optimized it is etc. You can also compare the speed test results we got out of all providers, but you’ll get much better results out of all cloud hosting providers if you optimize your site. Anyway, from our speed test, the fastest are: eUKhost, KnownHost, Flywheel, Pressidium, and WPX Hosting. The odd one here is eUKhost, a shared hosting provider. All the rest are cloud hosting providers. What may affected the results is that we used a different test location (UK) to test eUKhost. And we used the same US location for all other US-based hosts which makes it a huge distance difference.

Your benchmarks suck and don’t really say anything about a host’s servers.

Well, that’s not really a question. 🙂 And yes, we know. The tests we did are purely for comparison purposes. You’ll need to do better benchmarks to truly test their servers. You’ll get different results depending on what you host and how you configure your websites.

What’s the best host for a simple WordPress site?

Basically the cheapest. If it’s something simple even the cheapest shared hosting plan will be enough.

What’s the best host for multiple websites?

Any of them, but you’ll have to get a better plan than the cheapest one we featured. Most of the plans we featured are limited to a single website. You can host more websites with their more expensive plans, and you should definitely get a better plan if you’re hosting more websites.

Should I get shared or cloud WordPress hosting?

If you need speed and better performance, get cloud hosting. If you don’t, you can go with shared hosting.

What are the differences between shared and cloud WordPress hosting?

In short – shared hosting is a single server shared by many accounts. In most cases you use the same IP address too. With cloud hosting you’re isolated from others and you’ll most likely have a unique IP.

How scalable are the hosting providers here?

Each hosting provider we featured is scalable in the sense that you can upgrade your hosting plan with a single click. Some providers also offer resource scaling – like increasing storage only.

How secure are they?

All hosting providers featured here are fully managed (with the exception of Vultr), so they’re secure and all the server security stuff has been taken care of. Some even do malware scanning and monitoring so you’ll have an extra layer of security. Most providers have a built-in DDoS protection, though it may not help much if you’re hit hard.

Do I have to be a WordPress expert to use any of the hosting providers featured here?

In most cases – no. WordPress will be pre-installed for you. The hosting provider can help you set up a theme and some plugins. But actually configuring and updating your WordPress theme, posting content and stuff like that is not supported by any hosting provider. All the server-side and technical things about WordPress are taken care of by the hosting provider.

Do all hosting providers use Linux servers for WordPress?

Yes, at least all the providers we featured. But you don’t have to know anything about Linux so no worries.

Why are automatic updates, backups, 1-click installers such a big deal? Anyone can do that by themselves.

Not anyone. Even if some can do all of that and manage their WordPress themselves, they either don’t have the time for it or just don’t want to do it. It’s worth paying a few extra bucks if you don’t want to worry about all of that. Technically, you automate everything yourself using various free plugins. You should use an unmanaged provider like Vultr if you plan on doing everything yourself.

What’s the difference between WordPress.com and the hosting providers in this list?

WordPress.com is a hosted version of WordPress with very limited features and very limited access. All hosting providers in this list use the self-hosted version of WordPress(.org) – which has all the features you want and you have full control over your WordPress. If you want a self-hosted WordPress from WordPress.com then you can check out their VIP plans.

Why is there such a big difference in pricing with very similar features in some hosting providers?

It’s just how they run their business. We also left out many features, so a provider may have a lot more features on top of the ones we featured. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, so don’t jump straight on the cheapest plan if you’re hosting something bigger or more serious.

The price you’ve listed is $X, but they advertise $Y, why is that?

We listed the actual month-to-month pricing (renewal rates) without a discount. You’ll likely get a discount for your first month or a discount if you pay yearly. What most hosting providers do is advertise some rate per month, but not clearly disclosing the renewal rate. So this is the main reason why we listed the actual renewal rate without a discount. Don’t get fooled by $2 per month unlimited hosting. The renewal rate is much larger than that.

Your comparison table says ____ don’t have a ____ feature, but can you implement it yourself?

Yes. Most probably. Our comparison table is for their cheapest plan and what you get by default. Of course, you can use custom automatic backup plugins and staging software to get any features you need, but you’ll either have to do it yourself or contact the hosting provider to do it for you. If you (or your host) is willing to put in the work, you can get pretty much the same features with any hosting provider by using 3rd party plugins and software. So that’s why Vultr doesn’t really have anything in our comparison table, but you get full root access so you can install anything.

Can I get a coupon for a hosting provider you featured?

Sure! We already included unique coupons for most providers we featured. You can also check our Coupons category or contact us and we’ll get you an exclusive coupon.

A WordPress hosting provider has a feature that you didn’t include, can you add it?

Of course. If it’s relevant and it will help people better evaluate and compare a hosting provider, we’ll add it. We likely missed many features we should have added, so we’d appreciate your help.

Will my website support HTTP2?

Yes, in most cases. All of our providers support Let’s Encrypt (SSL) and have designed their servers to support HTTP/2.

What are the best WordPress hosting providers in Singapore, India and Philippines?

These are the 3 most requested countries other than US and UK, so a lot of the providers have servers in both countries. You’ll have to contact the hosting provider and see if they do have servers in different locations. As an example, A2 Hosting have servers in Singapore, as well as a few other providers featured here.

Will I have access to FTP/sFTP?

Yes. All hosting providers we featured will give you access to your server via FTP/sFTP. Some even have a built-in file manager in their dashboard.

Will I be able to change settings in php.ini?

Depends. Some providers won’t allow you direct access to the php.ini file, but you can change some settings via .htaccess. You can also contact them and ask them to change any setting for you. All WordPress hosting providers have an optimized php.ini config, so chances are you wouldn’t even need to change anything.

This is overwhelming and too complicated. Can you just pick a host for me?

We urge you to do it yourself. You know what’s best for you. But if you still can’t do it, feel free to contact us and we’ll find you a perfect host.

Disclaimer: all links here to hosting providers are affiliate links. If you click on a link and sign up for a hosting provider, we will get a commission for that referral if you stay an active (paying) customer for longer. This does not affect our reviews or opinions about them. We intentionally left out many hosting providers that “pay well” because they quite honestly suck. Our list and the featured providers cannot be directly influenced by the providers themselves.

  • That's a really helpful list. However, I don't see a number of other awesome hosts with great rep on reddit and elsewhere. pair networks, for example (is it because they don't have an affiliate program?). 34SP and Pressable (is it because they are picky in choosing their partners?). Or Scala and BigScoots (is it because their payouts pale in comparison with the majority of other hosts?). Cheers.

    • We actually have dozens of hosts that we plan on adding to this list, including the ones you mentioned. Also hosts like EasyWP, Nestify, VeeroTech, GoGoCreate...They all deserve to be on this list, but we're pretty occupied at the moment to add them as it takes quite a lot of time. Having an affiliate program or the kind of payouts they have makes no difference. Only quality matters here.
